Appealing directly to the Chinese market would probably be the smartest marketing move Disney has pulled in years. All their major properties have been underperforming in the West and doubling down on the identity politics is the dumbest possible way to try and counteract that, but they're so DEI'd up the ass that they can't afford to walk it back either. So the happy medium would be to sidestep the debate entirely by pivoting towards the lucrative Celestial interest in mindless spectacle.
