They do this all the time in movie franchises. Half of Creed was just shots of Rocky going back to the fish market and the museum steps. "Hey, remember that from 40 years ago?"
I watched this movie the Two Jakes which was a shitty sequel to Chinatown made in the 90s. They put even minor characters from the first film in it for no reason. Like "dork librarian from Hall of Records."
