Imagine you spend a good decade in radio, building your brand and turning down a lucrative modeling career to pursue your true passion. Along the way you run into a pair of brothers who you find funny and one of them eventually becomes your partner. You fight fucking hard to get the guy a raise because he's your best friend at that point. Through shrewd business sense, you find a way to leverage the show into bigger and bigger markets. Since you have been doing since you were eighteen years old, you understand that getting fired can mean only one thing, a promotion to a bigger market. You ascend to the pinnacle of radio, New York City, you give Howard Stern a run for his money and become wildly wealthy along the way. A couple firings happen, you bounce between Satellite radio and terrestrial and the entire partnership and show ends because your pedophile cohost can't stop tweeting about niggers.
When it is all said and done, your biggest flaw along the entire way was being the boss because no one else wanted to be. You were never supposed to be the funniest guy in the room but you definitely deserved more laughs. Over a decade of radio gold begins to be uploaded to YouTube and other websites throughout the years. All of your contributions, the callers you went to, the funny lines are there for the true fans to hear and remember. "I am more than just a ship steerer", you say to yourself, "anyone can spin records."
Your career speaks for itself, the radio awards, the millions of dollars, the beautiful wife, the beach house in The Hamptons and the penthouse in Trump Tower overlooking the park. You don't even bother responding to the haters at this point. "I'm not in the Cumia brothers business any longer", you tweet, "Anthony is human garbage."
It's been several years since your unjust, forced retirement from radio for a bit that went wrong with a member of SiriusXM staff. You're on the beach, enjoying the view that very few people will ever experience. Your son walks up to you with his phone and says that he has been listing to old Opie and Anthony clips on YouTube. "The show is really funny dad", he explains. At that moment you look down to see which bit he is enjoying, is it featuring Brueerrrrrrrrr or maybe your good friend Patrice? At that moment you see the background photo and know that your contribution over a decade were for nothing:
The fans and your son, prefer the show with zero of your contributions. Your entire identity and existence, of being "Opie" from the Opie and Anthony show has disappeared. No full clips exist any longer, just cut up shows that occasionally feature you laughing in the background or holes in audio before horrible callers. You have been cancelled completely from the one thing in your life that brought you pride. You have become Nopie.
