Was he actually in studio for this? I see what appears to be a curly haired wig just out of frame. I like that McCartney told Stern that he refused to do the show over the ISDN line and he had to come in. He’s an awful interviewer. Recently I heard one with Lauryn Hill and I was actually interested in what she had to say about the rumor in regards to, “I’d rather my kids starve than white people but my music” and overall she is an interesting woman in hip hop history. He kept calling her hot and “pretending” to hit on her so eventually Wyclef Jean basically just hung the phone up.

In the 90's he was very in your face when everyone else was a kiss ass. What the celebrity had to decide at those moments was basically sink or swim - get offended and look bad, play along carefully, or give it back and show you're not to be fucked with. Most did the middle routine, Conan cracked from the Jackie Puppet, and guys like Alec Baldwin fucked with him back and showed how quick he really was.
But at no point was he a good interviewer. Anytime he had a good one, the interviewee was the one pulling the weight. If Howard got them on a topic where they opened up, it was often by accident, in my opinion.
I was so glad that last book sold like shit. If that was a physical representation of his ego, the book would eat itself from condescension.

He was an extremely talented guy even though I am fairly indifferent to his discography but I’m going out on a limb by saying that his best work probably includes “Purple Rain” and “When Doves Cry” not the Batman soundtrack. Which begs the question why would Prince have done a Batman soundtrack?

I’m slowly remembering details of this interview like a rape. Howard asks Kamala if she’s ever seen Prince and she says no. Howard then tells a 5 minute story about himself about how he went to see a private Prince show and Prince had the lights off and played the whole show in the dark. Howie goes “I left. It was so fucking stupid. I wanted to see Prince play. I could hear this on the radio” and Kamala goes “Well I guess that was his thing he wanted you to really feel and hear it rather than you watching him” and he just goes back to how stupid it was and how he wanted to see Prince. Like he is a legitimate retard.

One of the funnier things I read was how Stern has a "massive white male audience". Yeah, in 1994 he did. But now? Absolutely no one takes the paranoid, agoraphobic old Jew seriously at all, and it's been that way for years now.
