Unpopular opinion: Jim Norton is a great stand up comedian

Which way?! Medium or well done?

To be serious for a moment....

Rich Vos and Bobby Kelly are actually great club comics. I saw them both live and they delivered. They know all the tricks because they've been doing it for 40 years.

I would never watch a special of theirs because it wouldn't translate. Comics trying to do "specials" is what sucks. Telling jokes to drunks and fawkin' riffin' doesn't translate to a recorded special

I've never seen an entire set of Bobby's but there was a comic clip show back in day I can't remember and the 5 minutes or so they showed of Bobby's stuff was fantastic

I'm not gonna sit here and say I didn't enjoy Jimmy on mic (pre chip) he was quick, the tranny jokes were new and I liked the Ramone stuff. I never loved his stand up though, and lied to myself that it was good because I liked the show.
He's an excellent addition to someone else's show. As the center of attention, he's worthless.

At the peak of their popularity, I dragged some friends to see Jim Norton in Seattle. Venue was massive - about 2000 people.

At the end of the show we were walking out and I could tell that everyone was uncomfortable. I didn't laugh at a single joke, but I could tell that my friends didn't want to complain because I'd hyped it up so much.

The last time I'd felt like that, was seeing "the phantom menace" in the theater. It was like all of us WANTED it to be great, but it was just "meh.'

If it had been TERRIBLE it actually would have been a better experience, because at least we could have trashed it. But it was just like "well that was a waste of a night."

Any comic who reacts to a heckler with a temper tantrum can't be 'great.'

I would be annoyed if I paid to see a comic and he devolved into a shrieking meltdown because a guy in the front row was frowning.

"YOU DON'T LIKE IT? WELL GET THE FUCK OUT FAGGOT"

Hey you fat marshmallow, you're supposed to ridicule a heckler, make him feel stupid for heckling you in the first place, make the rest of the audience turn against him. Turn his heckling into a part of your act.

But no, cool, yeah, go ahead, let me sit here in stony silence while you have a screaming argument with a random drunk idiot. I could have done this on the boardwalk outside.

"I blew a guy for a steak." Did you? Tell us more about the shooter on the grassy knoll, and other uninteresting things that never happened.

i think I heard this one & the guy wasn't even heckling from what I remember, he was just sat there taking-in the show... but the fact he wasn't loffin aloud obviously triggered Bob's insecurity.
Bob could've made it funny; said "this guy looks like he walked out of his door, X happened, then he saw his wife doing Y & Z with a garbage man covered in A, B & C."... but no, Bob was just angry calling the guy a faggot for no reason, even though he was just sitting there - not even interrupting!

That's right.

Jimmy, to his credit, complains about unenthusiastic audience members. And you know how Jimmy handles it? For all his personality problems? He ignores it and continues on with his routine. Jimmy isn't funny, but at least his act is consistent & stable. He isn't derailed by hecklers.

I was so annoyed when O&A praised Bobby for his "get the fuck out!" diatribe. That's not funny or impressive or anything. Bobby just panicked. It's like when you get in a fight with a random guy on the street. "You wanna go? Fuck you! Fuck! Fuck!"

Bobby Kelly is a terrible comic. He can't take criticism, he can't take heckling without a meltdown, and he's fat.
