I’d describe Dragon quest that way.
The good ones, like 6, 7 and 9, are classics. The rest are like you describe them.

I really liked the combat in the FF7 remake, I wish they'd implement it in their other games. And that they still made turn based games.

Never really got into them. I didn't even finish the first disc of VII back in the day, but VIII always looked good. Too busy at the time to touch it.

I enjoyed ff7 and some of the older rpgs - been trying to replay phantasy star 1 and it has been a royal slog.

Tactics was the first game I ever sunk over a hundred hours in. I have the re-translated mobile version which is pretty good. There is a PC game called Fell Seal that scratched that Tactics itch. The artwork and story are embarrassing, but the game play is terrific.

I've never played FF Tactics but I was really into a similar game called Vandal Hearts back in the day. I prefer that kind of combat style to the Final Fantasy style where they just stand still in a line.

Chrono. It's not amazing with onscreen controls but it's an RPG, don't need the controls to be good to enjoy it. Super Mario Bros or something is unplayable without a controller tho.

I always liked 8 because of how it's so easily broken. You get overpowered by avoiding battles and just playing cards. Like you can beat the last boss and still be <level 20 because levels kinda don't matter in it. There are definitely missing things in it because they started developing 9 half way through its own development, but I still like it.

Loved FF6 and Crono Trigger when I first played through them both. Tried to replay them and was bored. At some point my patience for story driven games was eroded and I don't really know when. I couldn't click with the Witcher 3 either, despite it being touted as the second coming. The only JRPG I've played recently was that weird Hylics 2 thing and I'm not sure if I enjoyed it or not.

Ff1 is what it is. It’s a classic for sure. Some indie group remade it calling it Final Fantasy Renaissance; where they added classes and monsters. And I think they were goi g to add more dungeons with updates?
The SNes ones are great; great music. I like 6 the most as far as the numbered FF’s go.
I didn’t really care for anything FF after 6 with the exception of FF tactics.
I think Tactics is the best video game of all time honestly. Sucks they never explained on it or put it online.

Vandal Hearts was great. Surprisingly gory. The Game Boy Advance FF Tactics games were ok gameplay wise, but gay as all hell overall. Tactics Ogre wasn't a bad series either. The original was made by the same people that made FF: Tactics. It suffers from the Ogre Battle series retarded dna, but good shit.

12 is one of my favorite games. They actually fixed a lot of the issues in the re releases which made it 10x better.
