Maybe, but they wouldn't be decorating their houses/cars to broadcast their support for that candidate. Nor would they be dressing every day like the election is a sporting event they're attending.

That devotion also allows the party to sidestep its deeply unpopular positions on most other issues. So I'd say it's more of a wash than it seems.
