Casting directors in general are uninspired and disinterested people who just want their jobs to go smoothly and will fill whatever quotas they're given with whoever they know. Why audition tons of unknown Asian actors when you can just hire the same handful of people for every Asian role? Obviously there are exceptions and major directors will usually have a list of actors they want that the studio needs to sign off on and casting then has to try to get but, generally speaking, Awkwafina gets hired to play "funny" Asians entirely because people know who she is. For all the yap about how unfair it is and how important diversity is, the sad irony is most Asians and plenty of niggers only get hired so much because they're the right color.

To be fair, she was good in The Farewell and the only part of that Marvel shit she did that I liked was the scene in the beginning with her on the bus. My wife refused to watch Crazy Rich Asians out of spite so I never felt the need to force myself to do so either.

It was an interview years ago. And she didn't get famous until after that. I remember her thanking her dad when she won the Golden Globe, I think, for The Farewell and being a shocked by it because of that interview because it didn't sound like they had a good relationship even after getting back in contact.

Okay, I looked up the acceptance speech and it wasn't as warm as I remembered it.
