Because the show was mostly driven by Opie. It took a while before Norton really infected the show with his constant porn whores and WWF wrestlers and UFC fighters. And then really infected the show by teaming up with Anthony to sabotage Opie behind the scenes. It also wasn't until 2013 (?) even where Opie just gave up and let Norton do his advice shows and book anyone he wanted to without putting up a fight anymore. Leading to such ear cancer as the Belle Knox interview where Opie saved it by bringing Lady Di in to finally destroy the bit.

It was one thing for Norton to drop a 'hey I blew kids when I was younger' once a year in between segments like Homeless Shopping Spree or Jocktober. It's another for him to host a podcast with his male 'wife' and openly live out the most degenerate lifestyle and actively mock all things normal and holy every single moment of his life. And now it's confirmed without question that Norton's old stories were not just shock value or exaggerated for the air. That they were tame compared to his actual behavior behind closed doors (same with Anthony).
