Well I don't mean to be a gay nerd but at first christianity also regressed society, for centuries. It wasn't until major reformations started around the 1400s that Christian Europe became the center of scientific and cultural development worldwide.
Islam hasn't had the same development in part because it's much newer than Christianity, Islam is only about 1400 years old so there's literally a 600 year gap between the two.
