How did Artie last so long at Stern?

Everyone was hired through Sirius. No one worked for Howard except for Ralph and Ronnie. Artie was a full time Sirius employee with all the health and dental benefits and insurance. Ralph died without health insurance because he was working directly for Howard.
Howard 100 and 101 get $100 million to fill the channels with programming each year. Any leftover money goes to Stern. So the incentive for Stern was to pay everyone the absolute bare minimum and pocket the rest for himself. Artie was making something like $700,000 a year at his peak on Sirius but $2-3 million in standup gigs and DVDs each year. This is why each year the Stern channels would have fewer shows and employees and now there are no other shows but old Stern tapes.

He was supposed to replace Jackie but couldn’t write in Stern’s voice so he just left the mic on. Artie leaving marks the end of Stern being funny. WWAWD Marci Turk?! If 9/11 didn’t happen then Stanhope or someone else would have been in the chair. Howard just loves fuck ups because he lives such a normal lifestyle. Same with Judd Apatow.

Artie from 2003-2006 is generally considered to be nearly as good as the best Jackie and Billy West years. He carried Stern into satellite radio by himself essentially. He was the only thing on Stern that was remotely listenable and tolerable.

The Stern show made him. He was a third rate middle. He SUCKED on MadTV. He SUCKED on the Norm Show. Beer League sucked. It's terrible. It flopped. It made 250 grand - I could SHIT that out my ASS.
