I would think Trump would have learned his lesson from 2020 where he acted like a lunatic during the debates which let Biden hide in the noise. Biden's overall campaign tactic in 2020 was to make it all about Trump. He succeeded and won because Trump is kinda crazy and deeply disturbed.

Biden wanted to do the same this cycle, but because he is just too fucking old and feeble now, his age and health - and not Trump - became the #1 national focus. Trump could have just sat back and 'bring up the border' and won comfortably.

Problem for Trump is that so far people seem to be actually somewhat excited about Harris and she is running a more active positive campaign. If her approval ratings and stuff keep climbing, Trump has to respond somehow. There's stuff he can go after Harris about, mainly her weird 2020 primary campaign stuff.
