WWAW Unions?

you make a fair point.

I do think they kinda turned into gangsterism & were corrupted by political influence, even though I generally think they're a good thing
100% unions have been used to exploit workers by organized crime, but I think for the most part those times are over. I'm about to join a union and I'll happily pay my dues because I'll get a great wage, amazing benefits, and job security.

I've worked in IT, seen people get outsourced, it's fawkin brooooodal. That shit wouldn't happen in a union.

Working in a right to work state would fucking suck, maybe I have it wrong but you can get fired at any time for no reason? That's fucked.

be one of those then.
It takes many years to become that, and they probably grew up learning from their dad or something. The all-district linebackers of the world that arent the brightest but are good kids, deserve a chance to learn a trade under decent conditions and pay if they work hard. You’re only two choices shouldnt be go to college or work in a non-union shithole making $15 an hour doing Cumia work and being dirt poor.

None of the supors or top level Techs are in it. Thats how they rose to the top, by being good workers. Im pretty low on the totem pole and wanna stick at this place for the rest of my career. Its the first company that i feel good about. Its MASSIVE so plenty of opportunities to grow and earn. They gave me a new 2023 4x4 2500, $1500 for uniforms, company credit card, pension, etc. Its a really great opportunity and i dont wanna be one of the lazy faggots. I wanna be making $250k sitting in the office in a few years. I dont want the union holding me back. But it seems like if i join, the company/management/supors will hate me but if i DONT join my coworkers will hate me and put a target on my back. But fuck my coworkers. Im wanna be one of the ones that lets my work ethic speak for itself. I just wasnt sure if there was something i was missing or anything i should know about unions before i reject them.
Sounds like you've answered your own question.

I did offer! (since I'm not evil)

Seems like you just about passed by a shawn cunt-hair. Cool :)

They approached me to join. It seems like everyone in it at my work are a buncha faggots. Literally all of them. They seem to just use the union to stick up for them so they can be a buncha do nothing losers. Every single person in it is a fat lazy slob. The actual real good professional electricians arent a part of it. They let their hard work speak for them. All the old timers are dropping out because they dont like what the union has become. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice as to WHY i should join? (They represent me regardless whether i pay dues or not). It seems like a waste of $ to me.
I used to do pick up work for the local . For the most part absolute leech crybabies. My father was always a proud union man who never hesitated to bash corruption when he saw it. Needless to say he had few friends not that he gave a shit.

As far as the guys I knew it was a not so even split. Some were very invested in the union image of hardworking salt of the earth type assets to society.

Unfortunately a lot of the other dipshits just acted like welfare check cases. Dipping out routinely due to ‘bad backs’ which they probably had but played it up to go gamble or whatever.

Unions were a great idea until union members fucked it up.

I am in the IBEW and it has definitely made my life significantly better. I've had 100+ different partners throughout the years and only a handful of them were lazy. Most of us are afraid of losing our jobs just like any other trade; we are replaceable. I'm in one of the most liberal cities in the world and most of us vote red because non-union labor has been able to flourish and has overtaken union labor here under liberal leadership. Of course our officials tell us to vote blue, but the workers can see clearly where that has gotten us. I had all the same stereotypical beliefs about what a labor union would be like when I first joined and most of them are just not true.

Its a tough one man, on one hand you can really see why people need Unions after being mmmmotherfucked by this big companies. At the same time they seem like they're just full of lazy scccccummbags.

Unions are fine and needed. It's state and federal employees who need to be cleaned out.

Bet on yourself though, you think Dan Mullen got a 5 sink house by carrying the weight for a bunch of useless assholes?

Yes. And the retarded argument is “Duhh but that just means the bad workers won’t get fired because the bosses have to jump through hoops!” Yet every job i’ve worked in where you could get fired at anytime has bad workers who are never fucking fired.

I'm anti corporate, I will stick by the devil I know (unions). Double edged sword as they act commielike, but union protections can save your life.

Unless you think you can negotiate a better deal alone, join one. They get shit done and there's a reason governments hate them. But bear in mind this is probably bad advice from someone who's never been in one.

Aside from being anti competitive, my issue with unions is you lose your ability to advocate for yourself because they negotiate your pay and benefits.

On the flip side, the employer literally cannot fuck you around because the union will step in and fight tooth and nail on your behalf. They and their lawyers truly are a force to be reckoned with because they fight like old school gangsters.

I imagine they will try to motherfuck you for not joining so be prepared to pivot as needed. I’d join it for the protection and pension but see if I could find a way to become one of the leaders because I have a hard time sitting still and being lazy / bored. Plus I have no qualms about taking bribes and paying people off. That’s just capitalism 101
Depends on the Union, some are just another hand in your pocket.

This is definitely true, there are tons of people who seem to get paid to not work.

I believe it’s a byproduct of the quantitative easing post 2008 / ZIRP where debt was so cheap that companies weren’t being punished for wasting money because they could borrow for basically free. Easy to let it go when you’re not paying vig

Electrician unions are the best trade unions to join. The actual best unions in the country are longshoreman unions. If your long term goals are to live well and retire after putting your kids through college, union electrician is a good way to go. If you want to buy summer houses and yachts, you’ll need to get past management and into the executive ranks.
