Whats' fucked up is that she was prosecuted for the
bank's actions at all. Emmet Till type stuff. It's not even receipt of stolen property since the bank gave her their own money. Imagine if your employer gave you a 10k holiday bonus and then in January went "hey uh, that was a mistake. we need ALL that money back now. yes, i know we gave it to you but we changed our minds." as a cop arrests you.
If it was a white person who did this, you would be cheering them on and cursing the bank for taking the money back and having them prosecuted.
Its a testament to how deeply ingrained systemic racism is in America that she got any punishment. It's the equivalent of slipping a $20 in someone's pocket and calling the cops on them for theft. You know they only went after her for being Black.
Whoa whoa whoa wait a minute, let me get this straight: She lost all her life savings? Then how was she able to afford years of expensive litigation?
Pro-bono for an expensive years long case with no hope of profit? I don't think so
