Do black people ever consider practicality when it comes to making an important purchase, like an automobile?

I would respect the average Jeep owner if they told me "I bought it bc I wanted a Range Rover, but I needed something moderately more reliable (big achievement with those hunks of shit), and wanted to pay 40k less." Instead it's women who think Jeeps are a quirky buy. Lady it's made by Chrysler.
They are much better than Range Rover, those things really are big pieces of shit that always need work. We would trade them in and not even bother trying to sell them used since it would need a good amount in repairs before we put them on the lot so we just sent them to auction. Weren’t worth the headache of selling a used RR and having the customer back all pissed.

Only car I bought from a main dealer was a buy back & fixed VW diesel after they got caught cheating. It was five years old and only had 40k miles. Government made them warranty engine/emissions until 120k lol.
Saw it online, called up and the kid said come down and take it for a drive today. Went down. Car was in the shop getting the windshield replaced, try again tomorrow. Salesman was nice about it. It was the only spec in the country and they knew it, paid what they were asking. Wanted to charge me 14% financing "well it's an older car" ended up paying cash. I'll drive the wheels off the fucking thing

I research exactly what I want, which is something reliable and economical and what a fair price is, then go and basically say “I’ll pay this price now in cash and I don’t want anything else or to be up sold” and cut the bullshit and it always works just fine.

Speaking of Cherokee owners. Wranglers are a different matter. A GAY matter. But you're playing the depreciation game smartly so more power to you. Do you plan on getting a straight man's vehicle after that?
Of course, I prefer the Jeep GC (I’ve had 3 and they were all good cars without issue) but wrangler thanks to their gay fans hold value and the 4 wheel drive. We used to have lots of people trading in “sports” cars (mustang, Camero, challenger, etc) just because they want a “fun” car but able to get to work in the snow. Even funnier since fat Pat thinks his shit box mustang is some kind of collectors item.

I used to have a TDI. I hated working on anything but the motor. The fucking plastic window clips broke and the fix involved about 800 steps more than necessary. Still loved the car

Guess it depends on the generation. I had a bunch of MK4 Golfs and they were great but the interior fell apart and they were starting to get real rusty. This MK6 seems pretty solid so far at 150k. Replaced two rear wheel bearings, VW replaced all the emissions at 110k, cost them $5k lol. I'll delete it when the next emissions item break, don't tell the EPA. It's still on the original battery too

I fucking hate driving, day in day out tedious traffic.

I want a car that runs reliably, is cheap to maintain well and I’ll take care of it so it lasts as long as possible; then I’ll buy another in cash and do the same.

Having massive car payments or lots of your net worth tied up in a vehicle is full retard mode. Unless you’re rich and love cars it’s just a tool to get places, I don’t get people who talk themselves into financing shit they can’t afford, my buddy is the king of reasoning himself into unnecessary debt. “Dude I need the top model because of the kids” etc

When I doom scrol Instagram I get those clips that are some idiot going around a car dealer asking the employees what they drive and what they pay. Some of these idiots have $2k+ in payments a month, not including insurance on them or their own rent/mortgage.

I've never had a car payment, bought all my shit cash. I can't imagine dropping a grand or more a month on a deprecating asset. Yes, I'm Jewish.

Eh, all depends how many finance mgrs they have on and how many people are in front of you. I used to try to set up appointments for people like that where we had a car, price, etc and I could do a ton of stuff before they came in first thing on a Saturday so they would be in and out before 930 which meant I was already 1 sold for the day before noon. I just tried to get as much info and everything in advance (insurance cards, car gassed and cleaned, etc) and you can be in and out.
I'm not sure if it makes any difference but I usually make them give me a price before I will answer any questions about financing. They will ask me 5 times if I plan to finance with them before they finally give me their price. I usually say, "depends on the price I guess" when I finally get a number out of them I inform them them that I'm paying cash. I doubt Im getting any great deals but I have no complaints. Thinking about it now, I was probably offered the track car because the salesman was hoping I would have to finance the extra 20 grand after paying 29 for the minivan.

I worked one place that thought it was great idea to NOT put prices on the used cars and claim it’s a “cutting edge technology” that we’re doing “live” pricing which you wouldn’t know until you were committed to buy. Of course it was a disaster as people don’t want to look at car that they have no idea what the cost is and we can’t even tell them. That’s a lot of the old thinking that dealerships still use - just get them in the car and they’ll pay whatever we tell them it is! No stupid, doesn’t work that way anymore. Dealerships out there still hope the internet goes away, one place I worked claimed the internet was only for “weak” dealers and even weaker sales people. Even worse we’re dealership internet sales teams - they would say whatever it takes to get someone in (even tell them we have cars that were already sold, can be 250 a month with no money down on a 55k car, etc) because they got paid as long as the person showed up. Hated those fucks.
Did they never hear "If you have to ask you can't afford it"?

I had a Passat where all the main computer wiring was right below the driver’s feet. Excellent design for a place with a winter climate. At least a dealership replaced the wire for me for like $20. Reinstalling the actual computer part sounded like a nightmare. You had to buy a handheld computer to pair it with your car.

Didn’t they make a super luxury version of the Passat that they couldn’t sell? It was a 110 k sticker price that they had to unload for 40 a year later.

Vw phaeton they stopped selling them in 2006. Great cars, v12 and they sold for way less than they cost to build and ship.
